Second Oboe

Mayu Isom, originally from Santa Monica, CA, is a newly appointed orchestra member of the Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet, where she will play second oboe and English horn.
Previously, she resided in Boston and was a student of John Ferrillo at Boston University. While in Boston, she was named the winner of the 2019 Ralph Gomberg Merit Award Competition through the Boston Woodwind Society. Mayu earned her Master's degree at Rice University where she studied under Robert Atherholt. She received her Bachelor's degree at Indiana University, where she was awarded the Jacobs Scholarship with the tutelage of Linda Strommen.
Mayu has been invited to some of the most sought after summer festivals such as the Spoleto Festival USA, Music Academy of the West, National Repertory Orchestra, and more.  She is also a passionate and avid teacher to her music community, and has had many students succeed in school competitions and auditions.
